Aldi Ireland has agreed a new €3 million deal with Dublin-based Pizza Sorrento to supply all its 143 Irish stores. The new contract will see Pizza Sorrento supply Aldi with over 2,500,000 handmade Original and Sourdough Twin Pack Pizza Bases over the next two years.
Aldi Ireland will become the first retailer in Ireland to fully remove all black plastic from its core food range next month. Aldi has cut a massive 30 million difficult-to-recycle black plastic trays from its products and stores, saving 410 tonnes of non-recyclable plastic waste and replacing it with 100% recyclable alternatives.
Aldi’s nationwide expansion continued today with the opening of a new flagship store in Belmullet creating 16 new jobs, with 11 staff members having been recruited from the local Belmullet area.
Located on the Tallagh Road, the new store will be Aldi’s fourth store to open in Co. Mayo. Aldi now operates 143 stores across the country.
Aldi Ireland announced it will be trialling reusable fresh produce bags made from 100% recycled plastic bottles at 10 of its stores across Ireland. From 10th August, customers at participating stores can purchase the reusable bags designed to hold fresh fruit and vegetables for just €0.49 per bag.
Aldi Ireland has today announced that it has substantially reduced the sugar content of its children’s breakfast cereals range.
As a result, 40 tonnes of sugar has been removed from Aldi’s stores annually across children’s breakfast cereals products, enough to fill 350 shopping trollies.
Aldi Ireland increased its spend on Irish produced food and drink by over 24% since the commencement of the pandemic, as it experienced heightened customer demand during the peak of the Covid-19 lockdown.
Aldi Ireland announced that it will be trialling new 100% recyclable paper packaging across two of its toilet paper and kitchen towel products. If successful, the new paper packaging could help remove 166 tonnes of non-recyclable plastic packaging from stores in Ireland each year across Aldi’s toilet paper and kitchen towel ranges.
