Velo Coffee Roasters, the Cork-based coffee connoisseurs, are approaching an extraordinary milestone with the sale of their one millionth bag of coffee in ALDI stores this December. This significant achievement is testament to their lasting partnership with ALDI and our joint commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainable practices.

Established in 2017, Velo Coffee Roasters embarked on a mission to redefine the coffee experience, driven by a passion for exceptional quality and a commitment to responsible sourcing. Their successful participation in the Grow with ALDI programme in 2018 propelled their Velo Tandem to victory and onto ALDI shelves nationwide. Since then, the company has experienced rapid growth, leading them to relocate to a purpose-designed facility on the outskirts of Cork City in 2019, now employing a dedicated team of 14.

Commenting on the milestone for Velo, John Curtin, Group Buying Director, ALDI Ireland, said: “At ALDI, championing Irish producers is at the heart of our ethos, enabling our customers to savour the finest products Ireland has to offer whilst also empowering our suppliers to access new markets for their creations.

“This month marks a significant milestone for Velo Coffee Roasters as they approach the sale of their one millionth bag of coffee in ALDI stores. This achievement solidifies the strength of our partnership and acknowledges Velo Coffee as an exceptional addition to our product range, capturing the hearts of our customers with its remarkable quality and taste.

“Our investment with Velo this year reflects the depth of our dedication to supporting the growth of their business, as well as our commitment to aiding in the creation of new job opportunities across the country.

“We eagerly anticipate future collaborations with Velo Coffee Roasters and remain committed to fostering a thriving partnership that benefits both our customers and the growing Irish produce landscape.”

Rob Horgan, Owner at Velo Coffee Roasters, added: “We’re delighted to have reached such an incredible milestone of selling one million bags of Velo product at ALDI. When we won the Grow with ALDI programme, five years ago, we could never have imagined getting to that scale so quickly.

“ALDI have been real partners to Velo in helping us to grow our business, our range of products and the creation of local jobs in Cork. We’re hoping that this will be the first of many more milestones with ALDI.”

The Velo Tandem, recognised with multiple awards in prestigious competitions like Blas na hÉireann and Great Taste, remains a cherished favourite among consumers. Building on this success, Velo Coffee Roasters recently expanded their collaboration with ALDI by launching their second line, Velo Cruiser, in 2023. Moreover, this year marked an exciting milestone as Velo Tandem was successfully launched in ALDI UK, showcasing the brand’s reach and popularity beyond Irish shores.

Velo Coffee Roasters’ unwavering dedication to sourcing specialty coffee beans through their partner Covoya ensures a direct line of traceability to the farm, fostering partnerships with farmers and supporting local projects. This commitment extends to their strong ethos of social and environmental responsibility, driving continuous innovation in packaging to minimise waste.

ALDI’s Irish supplier network now includes more than 330 producers, bringing the finest quality Irish products to its 161-store network across Ireland.
