ALDI Ireland today confirmed it is set to open a new €11.5M store located in Dooradoyle, Co. Limerick next year, after receiving the final grant of planning permission from An Bord Pleánala.

Research commissioned by ALDI has found huge support among shoppers surveyed in Dooradoyle for a new ALDI store.

A study* of shoppers living or working in Dooradoyle by leading independent market research agency Behaviour & Attitudes revealed nearly 9 out of 10 (88%) shoppers interviewed claimed having an ALDI store in the town would mean better value grocery shopping.

Located on Dooradoyle Road, the new store will create up to 30 permanent positions upon opening, with up to 50 jobs supported during the construction period of the store, due to open in Q1 2025.

The new store, which is being built on a previously unused greenfield site, will feature ALDI’s award-winning Project Fresh layout. The 1,315sqm store will be powered by 100% green electricity, supported by 90sqm of solar panels on its grass roof.

Customers will be able to benefit from nine electric vehicle charging points, along with 10 bike parking spaces. There will also be 87 car parking spaces for customers.

This follows an announcement from ALDI earlier in February that it also received the final grant of planning permission for a new store in Moyross. This brings the total investment by ALDI to €36.6m, demonstrating ALDI’s commitment to delivering top quality produce at unbeatable prices to the people of Limerick.

Commenting,Colin Breslin, Managing Director of Buying and Services, ALDI Ireland said:

“We’re delighted to receive the final grant of planning permission today for our new store in Dooradoyle. Every new ALDI store that opens brings greater choice, quality, and value to shoppers.

“This, along with construction on our new Roches Street store, and Moyross due to commence shortly, will more than double our footprint in Limerick City over the next 2 years.

“We pride ourselves on offering customers the best value at locations most convenient to them. Households and families in Dooradoyle will soon be able to shop at their local ALDI and enjoy our range of great quality fresh produce, Irish ingredients and household products at value that just won’t be beaten.”

To date, ALDI’s Limerick stores have donated over 62,000 meals to local charities through FoodCloud, which equates to a saving of over 84,000 kgs of CO2 emissions.

ALDI is committed to growing its Irish supply base and increasing the number of Irish products available in its stores.  Currently working with over 330 Irish food and drink producers, ALDI spent €1.1 billion with Irish suppliers in 2023.
