ALDI IRELAND AND FOODCLOUD JOIN FORCES TO SUPPORT PEOPLE EXPERIENCING FOOD INSECURITY THIS FESTIVE SEASON

Campaign launches as retailer reaches 3 million meal donations

ALDI Ireland and surplus food charity FoodCloud are proud to announce the launch of the sixth annual ALDI Food for Good Campaign. To date, ALDI has donated more than 3 million meals through the partnership.

Taking place from 10th – 19th November, the ALDI Food for Good Campaign calls on customers to embrace the spirit of giving at Christmas by donating non-perishable items at their local ALDI store. The donations will be distributed to individuals and families who need support during the festive season, ensuring that everyone can enjoy delicious festive food this Christmas. ALDI recognises the importance of standing together as a community, especially during this special time of year. Teams in each individual ALDI store will also be donating to FoodCloud to support the campaign.

To date, ALDI’s partnership with FoodCloud has had a remarkable impact, with the equivalent of over 3 million meals donated to the charity, saving an astounding 1.2 million kilograms of food from going to waste. This significant contribution not only supports families and individuals that need it, but also benefits the environment by avoiding over 4 million kilograms of carbon emissions. ALDI has a long-standing commitment to combating food waste, through donations and other initiatives to tackle waste, for the betterment of both the environment and for society

Speaking at the launch of the Food for Good Campaign, Rachel Nugent, ALDI Ireland National Sustainability Manager said:

“Christmas is a special time of year – but it can be expensive for many people, not least because of cost-of-living challenges. At ALDI, we’re proud to support those in communities right across Ireland who most need our help, at a time of year when it is most valued. We are calling on our customers to help us do so, and to be as generous as they can at a time that can be financially challenging for so many families.”

Welcoming the initiative, Adrian Young, Head of Irish Partnerships at FoodCloud said:

“We are thrilled to partner with ALDI for the sixth year in a row on the Food for Good Campaign. This initiative embodies the spirit of the festive season by not only providing vital support to families who need it, but also highlighting the critical importance of tackling food waste in our communities. Together, we can make a meaningful difference during the holidays by helping those under financial pressure to experience the joy and warmth that Christmas brings, while contributing to a healthier, more sustainable future for all.”
