ALDI SIGNS NEW €14.7 MILLION DEAL WITH TIPPERARY COMPANY GLENPATRICK SPRING WATER

Deal comes as ALDI Ireland commits to spending over €1.1 Billion with Irish producers in 2023

ALDI Ireland has agreed a new €14.7 million deal with Tipperary-based spring water producer Glenpatrick Spring Water, which will see the company continue to supply ALDI’s 155 Irish stores with its wide-range of refreshing drinks products over the next year.

The announcement comes as ALDI gathers representatives of its 330-strong supplier network for its annual supplier conference, which is taking place this year for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, at the retailer’s headquarters in Naas, Co. Kildare.

Supplying ALDI for over 20 years

Established in 1988, Glenpatrick Spring Water employs almost 300 people in Ireland. The company will mark 20 years of supplying ALDI Ireland with this new deal, which will allow the company to grow its workforce throughout 2023 as well as continuing to invest in additional warehousing and system upgrades.

The company has signalled its intention to create up to 10 new jobs in 2023, thanks to the fresh investment from ALDI Ireland.

Produced and packaged in Ireland, Glenpatrick Spring Water products on sale at ALDI include Still and Sparkling Spring Water, Vitamin Water, and fizzy favourites like Rock Shandy, Red Lemonade, and Lemon and Lime.

ALDI Ireland Supplier Conference

This latest deal was announced during ALDI Ireland’s Supplier Conference, which is taking place over two days on January 25 and February 1. The conference sees representatives from more than 330 ALDI Ireland suppliers gather to hear about the latest developments within ALDI Ireland and discuss new product development opportunities available to its Irish supplier base. These suppliers hail from right across Ireland and supply ALDI with a variety of food and drink products such as preserves and chutneys, spirits, confectionery, fresh fish and seafood, sauces, yoghurt, juice, frozen meat and poultry, chilled bakery goods, rice and corn cakes, sliced meats, and salads.

ALDI Cost of Living Research

The conference takes place against the backdrop of an ever-changing retail landscape in which consumers strive for better value in the face of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Recent research commissioned by ALDI revealed that 77% of people have financial worries due to the crisis, the same number (77%) have already switched to private label goods, and 73% of consumers have switched to discount retailers.

Informed by this, ALDI is doubling down on its price promise and putting additional discounts in place to shield its customers from continued inflation while continuing to always provide them with access to quality, affordable, nutritious food without compromise.

Speaking at the conference, ALDI Ireland Group Buying Director, John Curtin, said:

“We are delighted to agree this new €14.7 million deal and look forward to continuing the great work we’ve done with Glenpatrick over the last 20 years. They are a valued and trusted supplier who bring the variety, quality, and expertise to our private label products in store.

Our research has shown us that as customers are increasingly seeking value in their weekly shop during this cost-of-living crisis, they are continuing to make the switch to private label products. At ALDI, we are committed to championing our Irish producers so that our customers can enjoy the very best products Ireland has to offer and that our producers can continue to grow their business. It has been a privilege to have so many of our suppliers together under one roof for the duration of the conference, and we look forward to working with them and announcing more deals throughout 2023 and beyond.”

Glenpatrick Commercial Manager Michael Cairns added:

“Over the last 20 years, this partnership has allowed us to bring our products to more and more customers every year and we are thrilled to sign an extension for one more year. ALDI’s investment in us has allowed us to grow our business, and this deal will help us continue to invest in our people and continue to supply our customers with the quality products they have come to expect from us.”

This deal follows recent commitments by ALDI to suppliers Broderick’s and Cookie Dó in late 2022, which included €7.5 million for Broderick’s to continuing supplying all ALDI’s Irish and UK stores, while also supplying 300 ALDI stores in the USA. Last week, the company announced the creation of more than 360 new jobs across the country in 2023, as the retailer continues to develop and grow its store network in Ireland.
