ALDI IRELAND WINS DISCOUNTER OF THE YEAR AWARD

ALDI receives prestigious accolade at the National Grocery Retail Awards

ALDI Ireland has been awarded Discounter of the Year at the prestigious National Grocery Retail Awards in recognition of its outstanding customer service, excellence in the provision of high-quality food and superior retail display, and the introduction of innovative sustainability initiatives over the past year.

ALDI received the award today at the National Grocery Retail Awards, hosted by Checkout. These awards exhibit excellence in Irish retail and recognise the companies and suppliers that help Ireland’s leading stores achieve levels of service and product excellence that set them apart from competitors.

Judges commended ALDI for the range of quality products on sale across its 160 Irish stores, and its investment in local communities. ALDI currently stocks over 1,800 products and works with over 330 Irish suppliers across Ireland. In addition, ALDI has invested more than €8 million in its Grow with ALDI supplier development programme since 2018, which provides an opportunity to Irish food and drink companies to gain a listing in all ALDI stores. 

Sustainability is ingrained in ALDI’s business ethos, and the retailer is always looking at new ways to improve sustainable processes and reduce carbon emissions. To date, ALDI have removed more than 2,150-tonnes of virgin plastic from its 160-store network in Ireland and replaced 930-tonnes of unrecyclable material with recyclable alternatives as part of its pledge for all packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.

The award is welcomed by ALDI, who recently gained the title of Ireland’s Most Reputable Supermarket as voted by Irish shoppers in the 2023 RepTrak Ireland Report, as well as Ireland’s Most Sustainable Supermarket according to the Ireland RepTrak® Sustainability Index 2023.
