Retailer unveils first store to open as part of recently announced €73 million Dublin expansion plan

ALDI’s nationwide expansion continues with the opening of its new store in Adamstown, Co. Dublin, creating 30 new permanent jobs in the local area. Located at The Crossings at Adamstown, the store was officially opened on Thursday 6th April, in the presence of the local team and Store Manager Dmitri Sakovits.  The new store is ALDI’s 25th to open in County Dublin. ALDI now operates 156 stores around Ireland.

This new store comes shortly after ALDI announced an ambitious plan to expand its store network in Dublin to include a €73 million investment in 11 new stores in the county over the next five years. The new stores will see the creation of 350 full-time permanent jobs and 550 construction jobs over the period.

With 25 stores now in the capital, ALDI has made a capital investment of €184 million in Dublin over the past 20 years, since opening its first Irish store in Parnell Street in 1999. The retailer currently employs 673 people in Dublin with a €20.3 million total salary spend across its 25 stores in the county.

Working with 81 local producers, ALDI spent €193 million with these Dublin based suppliers in 2022.

Additionally, ALDI will invest almost €2.1 million in Dublin as part of its Project Fresh initiative. ALDI Project Fresh stores focus on reducing the reliance on fossil fuels, using sustainable energy supply and saving CO2 emissions. ALDI has pledged to invest €60 million across the country to revamp the design and energy efficiency credentials of its store network as part of the Project Fresh store upgrades, which have been taking place since 2017.

Speaking at the Adamstown store opening, Dmitri Sakovits, ALDI Adamstown Store Manager said:

“This new €2.9 million store in Adamstown is the latest step in ALDI’s expansion programme and I’m delighted to open our 25th Dublin store and our 156th store in Ireland today. This new store, and the 30 new jobs created, will support our ambition to deliver value to the people of Dublin at the locations most convenient to them.

As a leading retailer in Ireland, we are very conscious of the current challenges facing consumers and businesses. The cost-of-living crisis is impacting every household and we know what it means for our customers. ALDI Ireland is steadfast in our belief that continued investment in our value offering and our store network is key.  Working alongside our strong network of local suppliers, we will continue to work hard, mindful of the challenges facing our customers and supporting them in weathering this storm.

Households and families in Adamstown and the surrounding areas can now shop at their local ALDI and enjoy our range of great quality fresh produce, Irish ingredients and household products at value that just won’t be beaten. Our promise to our Dublin customers is that we will never be beaten on price, and we will always provide the best value when they shop with us.”

The spacious new 1,366sqm store features ALDI’s award winning Project Fresh layout and features wide aisles and hi-spec fixtures and fittings. Parking will be shared over the total development, meaning ALDI shoppers can make use of over 400 car parking spaces and 45 electric vehicle charging spaces. As well as this, there will be 10 bike parking spaces outside the ALDI store.

The store has been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible, powered by 100% green electricity and featuring solar panels on the roof of the store that will contribute towards the overall electrical demand for the store – powering items such as energy saving lights and ALDI’s new chiller fridges. It also features ALDI’s new Electronic Shelf Labels in store in place of traditional paper price labels, meaning that stock or price changes can easily and quickly be communicated to customers.

With market leading salary, career progression possibilities and a whole host of other benefits, now is the perfect time to start your career with ALDI. The retailer is actively recruiting and has fantastic employment opportunities for Store Assistants and Store Management to form part of the ALDI team. Find out more and apply today at
