94% REDUCTION IN PLASTIC PACKAGING AT ALDI THIS EASTER

ROISIN’S HONEYCOMB EASTER EGG PACKAGING NOW 100% RECYCLABLE

ALDI Ireland has today announced significant environmental improvements to its Róisín’s Easter Egg Honeycomb Product, which are currently on sale in all 161 ALDI stores across the country.

ALDI is replacing plastic packaging on Róisín’s Honeycomb Easter Eggs with cardboard and foil, which will see plastic packaging on the product reduced by 94%. The remaining 6% represents the foil used to wrap the sweets, which as a soft plastic can be fully recycled through households’ regular domestic recycling bin.

This initiative demonstrates ALDI’s continued commitment to its 2025 plastics and packaging targets and ensuring that all packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable. By partnering with suppliers who share their dedication to sustainable practices, ALDI continue to reduce the amount of plastic used across its Irish store network.

Jason Carolan, Plastics & Packaging Manager at ALDI Ireland, said: “We are eager to take a step towards eliminating plastics from our packaging, in line with our pledge for all of our packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.

“Our Róisín’s Honeycomb Easter Egg is now an even better option for shoppers – not only does it offer what ALDI is known for – unbeatable quality at unbeatable prices – but now with 94% less plastic, this makes the product 100% recyclable which is great for shoppers keen to ensure their Easter is as sustainable and environmentally-friendly as possible.
