Located on Lagore Road close to the town centre, the store was officially opened by Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail, Damien English, TD. The new store is Aldi’s seventh to open in County Meath. Aldi now operates 148 stores around Ireland.

Welcoming Aldi’s arrival in Dunshaughlin, Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail, Damien English TD said, “The last 18 months has been very challenging for our retail sector so it’s great to see Aldi show the confidence to continue to invest in Ireland and open new stores. Aldi’s new Dunshaughlin store is a fantastic addition to the town and I’ve no doubt will play a central role in the retail fabric of the town for years to come.”

“Aldi staff, like all retail workers in Ireland, really stepped up when it mattered most over the past 18 months providing an essential service to their local communities.  I would like to thank them for their dedication and their remarkable contribution during the pandemic.”

Aldi’s Investment in County Meath

To date, Aldi has made a capital investment of over €45 million in Meath. Aldi is the market-leading supermarket for pay and currently employs 186 full-time staff across the county. Aldi is seeking to recruit 65 new employees for its Meath stores this year, including 34 permanent positions.

Community Support

Aldi’s existing stores across Meath are deeply involved in their local communities. To date, the Meath stores have donated almost 54,000 meals to local charities through FoodCloud, saving the charities more than €68,100. Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network, with Blood Bikes East just one of several charities that have availed of the €500 bursary grant in recent years.

In addition to supporting local charities, Aldi’s national tree planting initiative will also involve the Dunshaughlin team. More than 37,000 trees have recently been planted at Hawkinstown, near Ashbourne. Aldi is the first retailer in Ireland to commit to planting 1 million native Irish woodland trees by 2025, working together with Green Belt.

Supplier Support

Aldi supports a variety of food and drink producers across Meath and spent €50 million with its Meath producers in 2020. Aldi is committed to growing its Irish supply base and increasing the number of locally produced Irish products available at its stores. Aldi currently partners with 12 food and drink producers across County Meath.

Aldi has invested more than €3,000,000 in its Grow with Aldi supplier development programme since 2018, which offers up-and-coming artisan Irish food and drink producers the chance to have their products listed in Aldi’s 148 stores.

In March 2020, Aldi reduced it payment terms for all suppliers that transact up to €1 million worth of business annually. Payments are processed and paid within five working days.
