Indeed, a survey of over 3,000 mothers  conducted by Aldi* has found that Irish Mammy’s  are a busy lot! 

The survey showed that 44% of Irish Mums said they never get any time to themselves! With a whopping 39% admitting to pretend to go to the toilet just to grab five minutes’ peace, while 42% of Irish Mams said even the bathroom isn’t alone time. Nighttime isn’t even sacred with 79% of Mums saying their kids interrupt their sleep and climb into bed with them. 

Other findings from the survey include:

• The most relatable Irish TV Mam is Mrs. Brown (23%) followed by Ma Mary from Derry Girls (13%) and in joint third is Lorraine from Normal People and Mairead from the Young Offenders (12%).
• Mams say the best way to unwind is to watch some TV (48%), shower in peace (41%) or go for walks (35%).
• When it comes to Mother’s Day gifts, Mams are expecting to receive simple heartfelt cards (60%), flowers (39%) and chocolates (23%).
• 29% of Irish people call their mother ‘Mam’ followed by Mammy (22%) and Mom (13%).
