RAISE A GLASS TO WORLD MALBEC DAY WITH ALDI’S MARVELLOUS SELECTION OF ARGENTINIAN REDS

Celebrate #WorldMalbecDay on April 17th with Aldi’s selection of Malbec reds at unbeatable prices!

Did you know April 17th marks World Malbec Day?  An annual celebration when the world takes a moment to raise a glass to Argentina’s wine industry and its most beloved export.  Aldi has an incredible selection of Malbec reds at unbeatable prices, to mark the occasion. It was on this day in 1853 that President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento of Argentina commissioned a French soil expert, Michel Aimé Pouget, to bring some new vines from France to Argentina. The rest, they say, is history.

Today, almost 75% of all Malbec grapes are grown in Argentina and the wine is celebrated around the world over for its ripe, warm, and seductive flavour. This year, World Malbec Day falls on Easter Sunday, making it the perfect moment to celebrate with family. Whether you’re a longtime lover or you are planning to sample this Argentinian red for the first time, you are sure to find an appealing selection at prices you cannot resist in your nearest Aldi store.

Commenting on the range, Tom Doorley, Aldi’s resident wine expert said: “Aldi is the perfect place to explore a range of wines from around the world and boasts an impressive Malbec selection which showcases many different facets of the same grape. The Specially Selected Argentinian Malbec (€8.29) is a long-established favourite of Aldi’s customers nationwide and it’s very easy to see why. It personifies the Argentinian style of Malbec with notes of blackberry and blueberry and hints of dark chocolate.

In terms of food pairings, I love a blue cheese dish with my Argentinian reds – try the Specially Selected Cashel Blue Cheese (€2.79) on crackers to accompany and thank me later! Aldi’s award winning Bord Bia Quality Assured, Specially Selected 8oz Irish Black Angus Striploin Steaks (€8.99) is the perfect partner for your Malbec. For vegetarian options, consider rice or couscous-based dishes with Middle Eastern flavours and peppery olive oil.  Malbec is very versatile!”

See below for a full list of Malbecs available in Aldi:

  • Pierre Jaurant French Malbec €7.49 An interesting combination of grapes. French but leaning towards the Argentinian style with the Syrah adding notes of spice to the Malbec’s dark cherry and a suggestion of pomegranate.
  • Grapevine Malbec €7.69 This European style of Malbec is refreshingly easy to drink, Medium-bodied, with low acidity and raspberry accents on the fruit.
  • Buenas Vides Argentinian Malbec €7.99 A great introduction to the Malbec grape. Typical deep colour, quite soft with round tannins and plenty of ripe plum fruit and a touch of pepper.
