East Coast Bakehouse will now supply Aldi with 50% Reduced Sugar Chocolate Chip Cookies

New product to bring contract value up to €700,000

Aldi has announced an extension and renewal of its contract with Ireland’s largest biscuit manufacturer, East Coast Bakehouse.  Based in Drogheda, Co. Louth, East Coast Bakehouse has been supplying Aldi since 2017 with this latest addition expanding the portfolio supplied to Aldi to three biscuit products.

East Coast Bakehouse currently supplies Aldi with Everyday Essentials Chocolate Chip Cookies (€0.79/400g), Belmont Just Delicious Biscuits (€1.99/170g) and this latest contract extension will see the addition of the recently developed Belmont Chocolate Chip Cookies 50% Less Sugar (€1.29/150g) which has just launched in stores. The addition of this new product will bring the total value of the East Coast Bakehouse contract from €550,000 to €700,000. These new biscuits are suitable for anyone looking to reduce the amount of sugar in their diet or for those looking to swap out their regular biscuit with a healthier alternative!

East Coast Bakehouse was established in 2016 by Alison Cowzer and Michael Carey in response to an opportunity to supply Irish made biscuits to the market.  Aldi is one of the foundation customers for the business and as such the relationship is highly valued.

Following a joint product development workshop at the East Coast Bakehouse facility in Drogheda, the company has worked with the Aldi team to expand the range and in February 2020 added an Indulgent Chocolate Enrobed Cookie which has just relaunched under the “Just Delicious” range.  The product has been a hit with Aldi’s customers and in 2020 was recognised and awarded by Blas na hÉireann.

Richard Boland, Commercial Manager, East Coast Bakehouse commented: “We are proud of our growing relationship with Aldi and appreciate the support they have shown our business including the introduction of the  new 50% Reduced Sugar product, offering Aldi customers a healthier option with the same great taste and 50% less sugar. We look forward to continuing to expand the business we have established together.”
